REMINDERS:
Young men – Don’t forget to
register with the Selective Service. Go
to www.sss.gov
It
only takes a few minutes and it=s the law.
Transcripts - Many colleges
require an official@ transcript. In that case, the transcript must be mailed
by Mortimer Jordan. Often an updated
transcript is required after first semester grades are posted. Ms. Mathis in the guidance office sends
transcripts. The first transcript is
free. After that, there is a $1.00 charge. Always request the transcript be sent AFTER
you apply. If the transcript arrives
before the application, it is more likely to be lost by the college. An official final transcript is ALWAYS
required after graduation, even if a student has been accepted and awarded
scholarships. Senior checkout forms in
May will have a section to indicate where to send final transcripts.
Athletes: Senior athletes
who plan to play collegiate sports must register with the NCAA Clearinghouse.
. The Clearinghouse strongly requests
that registration be done on their website , www.ncaaclearinghouse.net. The clearinghouse will require one
transcript now, as well as a final transcript the week after graduation. We already have an end-of-year transcript
file. Therefore, it would be advisable
to turn in both the current transcript request and the final transcript request
forms that are printed from the website as soon as registration with the
Clearinghouse is completed. The form
must be mailed with the transcript.
Both transcripts must be sent directly by Mortimer Jordan.
Recommendations: When
recommendations are needed, a teacher who knows the students very well should
be chosen. Recommendations should be
requested from the teacher at least a week before needed.
All
applications for scholarships should be typed or written very neatly. If two candidates seem equal, the winner may
be decided by the appearance of the application.
